Hummingbird Feeders
August 26, 2010

In the last couple of days I have noticed hummingbird feeder activity has increased 100%. They are now bulking up and storing fat that they will desperately need to make their migrating journey. It is very important to have good sugar water for them in a clean feeder. Be sure and clean you feeder inside with soap and a brush. Mine looks clean but rub your finger in the inside and you will feel the slime generated from fermentation microbes. I always boil my mixture and let it cool wth the lid on. This is important because airborne yeast is everywhere and can cause deadly alcohol fernentation in a very short time.

To make your own food add 1 part white cane sugar to 4 parts water, bring to a boil and set aside to cool with the lid on. Some people think you are suppose to take your feeder in to encourage migration. This is false and only takes the much needed food away from them when they need it the most.

Help out your hummers!!!!
